Micky van de Ven Brace Halts The Toffees' Unbeaten Streak at Brand New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven scored twice as Spurs extended their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the tally a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a handful of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to ensure the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, advising the match official to check the goal on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates Thomas Frank's team up to third in the division, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils duties at each end of pitch

Following a drab weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only attempts on goal, the manager opted for the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an free the defender to head home.

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in the team's winning streak at home won't be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of recognised strikers - had netted just a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having space and time to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, too, failed to make an impact after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.
