Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior representative commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
